REVIEW: Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit



I am in love with these Glow Kits (click here to buy). These are sold at Sephora, ABH website and wherever ABH is sold. They retail for $40 (USD) for each kit and come in two different editions, GLEAM and THAT GLOW. GLEAM appears to be more cool toned and THAT GLOW, warmer tones.

Initially, I thought they were a bit pricey, but now I think that they are well worth the money. The pans are bigger than I had expected. Each pan has 0.26 oz of product compared to their individual highlighters which are $28 for 0.32 oz of product. You’re basically paying $10 for a full sized highlighter. These are the descriptions of each shade as per Anastasia Beverly Hills website:

Sunburst – Bright, luminous gold with a metallic finish

Golden Bronze – Sultry, warm bronze with a gold-flecked finish

Bubbly – Rose champagne with a pearlescent finish

Dripping in Gold – Lavish gold with a vivid, reflective finish

The THAT GLOW kit in my opinion, is the better option of the two kits because they offer a wider range of colors from an opal to bronze to champagne to a true gold.

For a Makeup Artist, this is really a great deal especially when you compare it to similar highlighters like Becca Cosmetics which are $38 for 0.25 oz of product. Clearly, this is a steal.

  • More product for your buck
  • MUA friendly
  • Highly pigmented
  • Wide range of colors
  • The consistency is smooth and not chalky
  • Works with almost any skin tone
  • Easy to carry around
  • Packing is really impressive


  • Individual pans are not sold separately, so if you run out of one you may have to buy another kit
  • Bubbly and Dripping Gold can look relatively similar (although they are not)
  • May not be as affordable as getting their individual highlighters (So Hollywood, Rivera…)

REVIEW: (Kaepop) Colourpop x Karrueche Collection

Karrueche and Colourpop teamed up to for this collab of Super shock shadows (eye shadows), Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks, Blushes and Highlights or Super Shock Cheeks as Colourpop calls them. The collection launched on the Colourpop website (click here) on February 4th and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Colourpop has been one of the few brands that though, haven’t been in the industry for as long as MAC and other brands, have gained my trust in the quality and affordability of their products. They are also one of the few companies that display swatches on ALL skin tones, and have proven to be the most true to color. I love Colourpop and I love Karrueche so it seemed obvious that I should get my hands on the collection.

  1. Super Shock Shadows (eye shadows)

There are four shadows in the collection, Wilshire (Mid tone warm peachy beige in a Matte Finish); Crenshaw (Warm saddle brown in a Matte Finish); Beverly (Deepened blackberry in a Matte Finish); & Sunset Blvd (Warm golden bronze in a Pearlized Finish), which retails for $20 as a set. There is also the option of getting them individually, which retails for $5 per shadow and you get 1 oz of shadow.

  • Colourpop shadows are usually very creamy
  • They have good pay off for the most part
  • Long lasting/wearing
  • The pearlized shadows are very pigmented
  • Good range of day to night colors
  • Affordable


  • You have to seal the lids of these shadows every time you use them, otherwise they get hard and is not as pigmented
  • Beverly looked so promising, however, when I swatched it, it didn’t seem as pigmented as I imagined
  • The eyeshadow collection had 3 matte shades and 1 pearlized, it could have been 2 pearlized and 2 mattes as I much prefer Colourpop pearlized shadows than their mattes
  • Glo up (highlighter) and Sunset Blvd (eye shadow) are pretty much the same colors, and I just feel like each item should be different. I would just get Sunset Blvd ($5) and use it as both an eye shadow and a highlighter and save the $8

Ps. These shadows are best used with your fingers or a synthetic brush

2.  Glo Up (Super Shock Cheek)

There are 3 Super Shock Cheeks in the Kaepop collection, Bronze Me (bronzer), Flush’d (blush) and Glo Up (highlight). I got Glo Up and I must say that it is amazing. Again, all of Colourpop Super Shocks are so creamy and well-pigmented and Glo Up is no different. The website describes this color as “A rich gold with flashes of golden copper in a Pearlized Finish”, and I couldn’t agree more. These Super Shock Cheeks retail for $8 and it comes in 1.5 oz, so it is a little bigger than the eye shadows. I give Glo Up 5 stars.



  • Really affordable for a highlighter
  • A lot of product for the price (1.5 oz for $8)
  • So creamy (very pigmented) and applies to the skin very well (not blotchy like some highlighters)
  • My favorite item in the collection
  • True to color (true gold highlight)
  • No fall out, or highlight going all over your face


  • Same/similar color as Sunset Blvd

PS. I prefer to use my fingers to apply Glo Up, but a duo-fiber brush is good also

3. Ultra Matte Liquid lipsticks

There are three liquid lipsticks in the collection, Kae (a deep warm yellow brown), Rooch (a deepened russet wine), and Chi (a cool tone nude beige) and comes with its matching lip liners. These retail for $6 each and lip liners are $5 each. You get 1 oz of product which is really good for the price. Colourpop is known for their affordable liquid lipsticks which have really good quality however, in my experience the darker colors like Limbo and LAX have not been their best formulas. I must say that when I swatched both Kae and Rooch, Kae seemed fine but Rooch was very drying and the consistency was not smooth at all.  I didn’t get Chi, as I thought it would have been too cool for my skin tone.



  • I like that it had different packaging, the Kaepop Ultra Mattes have gold accents instead of the usual silver
  • Decent range of colors for all skin tones
  • Kae seems to have a better formula than its counterpart, Limbo
  • The matching lip liners is a good idea as you don’t have to search around for the matching liner


  • I have to say that the lippies are my least favorites
  • The formula of Rooch is similar to LAX, its not smooth and it flakes in no time
  • I wish the collection had more unique shades as they have similar colors in their original line (Rooch is similar to LAX, Kae is a dupe for Limbo, Chi seemed to be an unique color though). Rooch and Kae are just too similar
  • Inconsistency with the formula
  • More everyday or day time appropriate colors should have been included as that’s what Karrueche is mostly seen wearing

PS. These work better when your lips are exfoliated before (lip scrub recipe here), and be very precise in your application of the darker colors especially

My life is a constant struggle between wanting to eat healthily and loving coffee. While coffee in itself isn’t so bad, I love all the different flavors like French Vanilla and Hazelnut etc. which can rack up the sugars and are filled with so many chemicals. So I wanted to come up with my own healthy version so I can drink my coffee guilt-free. By the way, what makes French Vanilla, french? Oh’s what you’ll need:


1 c Coconut Milk/Almond milk

½ c Coconut sugar

2 tbsp water

2 tsp Vanilla Extract


  1. Add sugar and water to a pan and stir until all the sugar dissolves.
  2. Whisk in Coconut Milk into the sugar mixture and stir quickly until it turns a light brown/golden color.
  3. Let it come up to a boil for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Set aside and add vanilla.
  5. Allow to cool and then transfer to your mason jar and serve with coffee of your choice.

½ cup of Creamer = 72 calories (avg) using Trader Joes Organic Coconut Sugar

My skin care routine: Dry/sensitive skin (night time)

IMG_3647Lately, my skin has been so dry and gross so I’m going to share with you everything you need to know about taking care of your skin; how to take off your makeup properly, exfoliation, at home facials…EVERYTHING basically!

Step 1: Removing makeup/Cleansing

I know that taking off your makeup can be the most tedious chore ever, BUT YOU NEED TO! If you like having blackheads and clogged pores, then okay, but if you want to wake up flawless, girl you better take your makeup off before bed.

Start by removing all the makeup with a makeup wipe and even if you don’t wear makeup, this is for you. There is still dirt and oils on your face that you need to take off. I use the Simple Micellar Make-up wipes along with the Bioderma Crealine TS H2O Micelle Solution with a cotton round, if I’m wearing eye makeup.

Then, I cleanse with either Simple Moisturizing Face wash or Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser which cleanse the skin without over drying. After I follow up with some serums or oils for added moisture.

NB. Exfoliating is also very good for the skin especially if you wear makeup. However, you only need to exfoliate once for the week, twice at most as it can be very drying to the skin. My simple DIY exfoliator is honey and brown sugar. AHMAZING!

Step 2: Moisturize

This is by far one of the most necessary step in your skin care routine whether you have super dry skin or oily/combo skin. Lately, I’ve been using the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir which I absolutely LOVE!! It’s seriously a game changer. It adds so much moisture to my skin without extra chemicals and harmful ingredients. It makes the skin appear brighter and firms the skin and is great to add with your foundation for a dewy finish. YOU NEED THIS!!

I also love the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation when my skin is really dry. It really is a miracle product for overall moisture especially in the winter or if you have overly dry skin.

Step 3: Extras 

I call this step extras because you can definitely stop at step 2 but these extra steps sometimes make all the difference. Let’s say your pores or the texture of your skin has been rough and your foundation doesn’t look as smooth as you would like, I use the Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment. This helps smoothen the texture of the skin and firms the skin overnight (no gimmicks, I’m not being sponsored…yet).

I absolutely think that the Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum is by far the best skin care product I’ve used. It so effective its not even funny. The entire orange line from Murad has worked the best for my skin type however, I have issues with hyperpigmentation and occasional pimples leaving behind their ugly faces (I got emo there sorry). I have had this product for some time and I recently broke out on my cheek and it left a scar on my face and now its gone. I have seen results overnight, its amazing.

NB. For my occasional pimples, I’d use GSK Betnovate cream 0.1% which also caused my pimples to disappear. I believe you need a prescription for this cream now, but it has worked for me so please consult your doctor or pharmacist before use. 


I can’t talk about my skin care masks without talking about a stalwart in my skin care routine, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing!!! (Yes, it deserves extra exclamation marks). This stuff speaks for itself, it has a host of benefits and I use it once a week to clean my pores and detox my skin. No wonder its called the worlds most powerful facial 🙂 .

I use GlamGlow THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Treatment once a week to help rejuvenate my skin. Its really expensive but a little goes a long way. This is a skin care staple if you have dry skin.

I also love sheet masks, which are a part of Korean skin care and works really well. I use the My Beauty Diary Whitening Mask. Its basically a mask that fits your face and is filled with the respective serum and you leave it on for a couple minutes, peel it off, and massage the remainder of serum into your skin. There’s different types but My Beauty Diary is my favorite brand.


  1. CHANGE your pillow cases/ bed linen once a week.
  2. ASSIGN one separate wash cloth to drying your face.
  3. DRINK more water.
  4. EAT less dairy and more fruits like berries, oranges, grapefruits etc
  5. LIMIT red meat and try eating more salmon or tuna.
  6. WASH your hair once a week. It can prevent pimples.
  7. USE beauty oils and massage your face regularly.
  8. USE only clean hands when touching your face.
  9. SWEAT more (workout/saunas).
  10. GET regular professional facials. (Favorite Spa: The J Spa- San Fernando Trinidad, 868-221-0695)

1. Name and where are you from. 

Hi! My name is Charissa Singh. Born & raised in South Trinidad. I currently reside in New Jersey, USA.


2. Tell us about yourself.

I’d like to think of myself as a God fearing twenty three year old, who’s just trying to balance whatever life throws at her while working and having a bit of fun doing it, lol.

3. How long have you been a Makeup enthusiast and what how did you start wearing makeup?

I was probably a sophomore in high school, at sixteen or so, when I started really paying attention to other people’s makeup & the different looks they wore. I immediately became attracted to the makeup world. I started wearing makeup when I turned eighteen. When I discovered YouTube however, the attraction quickly turned into a mild obsession. I would definitely say that it has played a huge part in my love for makeup….it still does.

4. How would you describe your makeup style? 

Without a doubt, my makeup style is very simple and classic.

5. Favorite makeup artist/makeup inspiration? 

I wouldn’t quite say I have one particular makeup artist I emulate. Within the celebrity world, I love the makeup done on the Kardashian/Jenner girls, (excluding Kylie). While they don’t always look natural, their makeup always seems seamless and I can appreciate that. I guess you can say I am a bit of a fan of Mario Dedivanovic and Joyce Bonelli…to an extent. I also really admire Jackie Aina, Nicole Guerriero and also Jaclyn Hill, all of whom I discovered on YouTube. They are all incredibly skilled and creative. For every day inspiration however, I use good ol’ Instagram.

6. What is your current makeup regimen? 

My current makeup regimen is so simple, it’s actually laughable. My “every day” makeup includes a little bit of foundation for an even skin tone, under eye concealer (which is a must for me), mascara, lip balm and a decent setting spray. That’s it! I guess you can say I’m a bit of a minimalist.

7. Top 5 Favorite Makeup products?
These are my top 5, currently:
  • Smashbox Primer Water – I can’t completely explain why I love this product. It just works! It keeps your makeup looking fresh all day long!
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation – THIS IS LITERALLY EVERYTHING! Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s so good! It has medium to full coverage and lasts all day long. Coming from someone who is extremely oily and rarely does touch ups, that’s saying a lot.
  • ABH ‘World Traveler’ Couture Eyeshadow Palette – I love every eyeshadow color in this palette. They are all extremely pigmented and blend amazingly.
  • LA Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealers – These are really great medium to full coverage concealers, especially for their price. Once they set, they do not budge.
  • Lime Crime Velvetines – Amazing & comfortable long lasting liquid lipsticks with a great color range.
  • BONUS ITEM…(if I’m allowed) MAC Peach Lustre – Ok, so I know I’m cheating with this one but it’s worth the mention. Corrects beautifully and really just makes the job of your foundation and concealer ten times easier.
8. Favorite Go-to Makeup look

My ALL TIME favorite makeup look is really easy to achieve. I usually start with my brows and then move on to eyes, using warm neutral shadows (that I can find in my Morphe 35O palette). I sweep a deep burnt orange in the crease as a transition color, rich chocolate brown into the outer V and then add a golden peach or coral on the lid. Once everything is well blended, I move on to my face. I usually try to have a flawless base using primer, corrector, foundation and then concealer under my eyes. Once I set my eyes using the baking method, I move on to contour and bronze using my ABH Medium Contour Kit and then reach for a peachy/pinky toned matte blush. Once I apply all my matte powder products, I go in with my Primer Water and set everything, just to ensure I don’t look cakey. I then go back to my eyes and tight line, line my upper lash line, curl and apply mascara to my top and bottom lashes. And that’s it for the eyes! Of course, I got to go back to my face and highlight my cheekbones and the tip of my nose..9 out of 10 times, using Becca x Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop. On my lips, I usually go for Lime Crime’s faded and then spray another setting mist yet again. Then wala, all done! This routine usually takes me fifteen to twenty minutes, which to me isn’t really that long.

9. What are you favorite makeup brands?

Ah, man…favorite makeup brands, this is hard! Recently, I’ve been loving Anastasia Beverly Hills. All of their products I own haven’t disappointed me yet and it really makes me just want to buy more! On the more affordable side, I really enjoy NYX. They have a wide range of products, most of which perform really well. Last, but not least, Morphe! If you need brushes or shadows, they got you. Once again, really affordable and such good quality.

10. What are some of your favorite makeup tricks?

I won’t really call these tricks per say, just simple, extra steps I do. After applying my foundation, and concealer, I take a damp beauty sponge (either the Beauty Blender or Real Techniques Miracle Sponge), and blend everything seamlessly. It makes a world of a difference. On simple makeup days, I use my bronzer as a crease color. I save time and still look put together.

11. Is there any advice you’d like to leave with us?

Practice, practice, PRACTICE! Take it from someone who has yet to perfect extremely dramatic eye looks and winged liner. Don’t be discouraged if your look doesn’t turn out the way you imagined. Learn from your mistakes and keep playing with different products and tools to improve your application. It’s all about trial and error. Last but certainly not least, have fun! After all, isn’t that what makeup is about anyway?

Recipe: Apple Cinnamon Goodness


I am just on a roll with all these fun healthy recipes. Well, I wasn’t in the mood for a green smoothie really and I was thinking about a smoothie that would make me feel like it was Fall, even though we have only two seasons in Trinidad; rainy and dry season. Regardless, I had apples and I had cinnamon, so this is what went down:

  • 3 apples
  • 3 bananas (frozen and speckled is better)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg or mixed spice
  • 1-2 c Almond Milk (milk of choice)

Add milk to blender, then toss in the remainder of ingredients. Serve cold and ENJOY!

Recipe: Healthy Hot Chocolate

Possible? YASSSS! I don’t know about you but I get excited every time I see healthy and my favorite unhealthy foods in one sentence. Here’s the recipe:

  • 2 c almond milk (milk of choice)
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch sea salt

Combine milk and other ingredients into a sauce pan or pot until hot. Keep stirring all the ingredients so that everything is properly blended. Pure into tea cup and top with cinnamon. ENJOY!

Comparison is the thief of joy


Have you ever felt like you were working hard, but going nowhere. Have you ever been on Instagram or Facebook and seen other people’s posts and think, God, when would I get there? I have been blogging for some time now and I felt like I wasn’t progressing. I have been on social media way too much it would seem.

(STORY TIME) I saw one of my friends who started her blog around the same time as me, she has over 40k followers on Instagram and her blog was way cooler than mine and she had a bigger audience, better pictures, everything. I began to compare myself to her and her achievements, questioning my entire life, my existence. I know it sounds dramatic but sometimes when you see other people who were in the same playing field as you and doing better than you, you can get emo. I realized that my dilemma in turn could help someone that may be feeling the same way. I mean that’s why I created this blog in the first place.

Sometimes you might feel that you’re not where you want to be or that your dreams and aspirations don’t match up with your reality. But, don’t you EVER compare yourself with another person because it will kill you. It will make you believe that you’re not good enough and discredits all your accomplishments thus far.

It’s one thing to look at someone’s work and say oh this is nice and get inspo from it but never compare their chapter 2 to your introduction. I’ve learned that the hard way. This is your race and your race alone. You were created for a purpose only you can fulfill, ONLY YOU. So while you’re jelling (being jealous) about someone else you can be working on your own ish, ya feel me?

I sometimes think, oh man, if I had this new camera or this new makeup thing, I would be a better makeup artist or my blog would look nicer. Or maybe for you, its if I could (enter thing you really wished you could do or have here) I would be so much better. And the truth is, you got to learn to work with what you’ve got right now and own it! When I started my blog, I didn’t even own a camera, or a fancy phone like I do now. But I started and I’m not where I want to be, but I’m on my way.

You have your own race to run. So put your blinders on and run it to the best of your ability. Use people only to inspire and get rid of creative jealousy. Create your own. And that’s not to say that you don’t seek to better yourself. You don’t have to do it like person A or person B because everyone is different and unique.

So when I feel unmotivated or down, I listen to Lauren Daigle “Trust in You”. Here’s the lyrics and I hope it can inspire you like it did to me.

Detox: Coconut kefir

I have been wondering why I’ve been having so many cravings for mostly carbs, and always eating but never feeling full. So I’ve been doing some research and I came across a few articles pointing to increased growth of yeast in your body. Now yeast is present in the body naturally but too much can cause a ton of other health issues including weight gain or difficulty in gaining weight, sugar or carb cravings, excessive bloating, or inability to eat because you feel bloated all the time.

In my quest to solve my constant cravings and excessive eating of carbs, I came across Kefir. Kefir is a cultured, creamy product with amazing health attributes. It contains friendly ‘probiotic’ bacteria found in yogurt. The naturally occurring bacteria and yeast in kefir combine symbiotically to give superior health benefits when consumed regularly.



  • STOPS cravings for sugars and carbs (which converts into sugars in the body). This is because it is the overgrowth of yeast in our gut that either makes us crave sugars or makes us feel bloated all the time. Resulting in weight loss and difficulty in gaining weight.
  • AIDS in digestion of all foods, while toning and cleansing the intestines and liver.
  • EASES aches and joint pains.

Not everyone experience side effects, however the more fungal your body is the more reactions you may get. Some possible symptoms are headaches, diarrhea, fever, shakes, rashes, breakouts (any way your body usually releases toxins).

You ever felt like you shouldn’t eat junk food again but then “lady time” comes around and your hormones starts to run amok? Oh, maybe thats just me 🙂 If this is you though and you want to still eat healthy even when you’re craving junk, then this recipe is for you.

I have been addicted to McDonald’s French Fries for some weeks now (I know, I’ve been a bad girl). So to help me recover from this addiction, I’ve decided to make a healthy version of French Fries. I had some tofu in the fridge, thus…TOFU FRIES. Now, don’t judge it before you try it, it’s really delicious, even if you’re not a tofu lover. You can also substitute tofu for sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, cauliflower, mushrooms, pretty much anything that you can fry really.  Here’s what you’ll need:

〉 1 package Extra Firm Tofu packed in water

〉 coconut/olive oil for frying (you can also bake these)

〉 1 tbsp sea salt

〉 2 tbsp ground black pepper

〉 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

〉 1/4 tsp garlic (finely chopped)

〉 1 c Panko breadcrumbs (or homemade breadcrumbs or flour) 

〉 1 egg, lightly beaten (VEGAN OPTION FOR EGG WASH- water and baking soda mixture, beer or sparkling water)


  1. Prepare a plate lined with a couple layers of paper towels/napkin to absorb moisture from the tofu.
  2. Take tofu out of the packaging and rest on the plate you’ve prepared with paper towel.
  3. Place more paper towels over the tofu and set another plate on top of it to draw the moisture out. Leave for 15-20 mins until most of the moisture is absorbed by the paper towel.
  4. Heat frying pan on a medium heat and coat pan with a generous amount of oil for frying. NB. You can also bake these for an even healthier option. Preheat oven at 375°.
  5. Prepare another plate to drain off the tofu fries when they are finished.
  6. After the majority of water is absorbed, remove tofu from the plate. On a cutting board, cut it into “fries” about 1/2″ thick (or however you want your fries really).


7. In a medium bowl, combine salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic and egg (or egg substitute). Then, in a plate, add breadcrumbs.

8. Form an “assembly line” with egg mixture first then breadcrumbs.

9. Dip the tofu into the egg mixture and then into the breadcrumbs and place in fryer. Keep turning the fries in the pan until all the sides are golden brown. Repeat this process until all the tofu is fried.

10. Allow to cool, and enjoy with your favorite sauce (Sriracha & ketchup is my fav)
