My skin care routine: Dry/sensitive skin (night time)

IMG_3647Lately, my skin has been so dry and gross so I’m going to share with you everything you need to know about taking care of your skin; how to take off your makeup properly, exfoliation, at home facials…EVERYTHING basically!

Step 1: Removing makeup/Cleansing

I know that taking off your makeup can be the most tedious chore ever, BUT YOU NEED TO! If you like having blackheads and clogged pores, then okay, but if you want to wake up flawless, girl you better take your makeup off before bed.

Start by removing all the makeup with a makeup wipe and even if you don’t wear makeup, this is for you. There is still dirt and oils on your face that you need to take off. I use the Simple Micellar Make-up wipes along with the Bioderma Crealine TS H2O Micelle Solution with a cotton round, if I’m wearing eye makeup.

Then, I cleanse with either Simple Moisturizing Face wash or Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser which cleanse the skin without over drying. After I follow up with some serums or oils for added moisture.

NB. Exfoliating is also very good for the skin especially if you wear makeup. However, you only need to exfoliate once for the week, twice at most as it can be very drying to the skin. My simple DIY exfoliator is honey and brown sugar. AHMAZING!

Step 2: Moisturize

This is by far one of the most necessary step in your skin care routine whether you have super dry skin or oily/combo skin. Lately, I’ve been using the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir which I absolutely LOVE!! It’s seriously a game changer. It adds so much moisture to my skin without extra chemicals and harmful ingredients. It makes the skin appear brighter and firms the skin and is great to add with your foundation for a dewy finish. YOU NEED THIS!!

I also love the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation when my skin is really dry. It really is a miracle product for overall moisture especially in the winter or if you have overly dry skin.

Step 3: Extras

I call this step extras because you can definitely stop at step 2 but these extra steps sometimes make all the difference. Let’s say your pores or the texture of your skin has been rough and your foundation doesn’t look as smooth as you would like, I use the Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment. This helps smoothen the texture of the skin and firms the skin overnight (no gimmicks, I’m not being sponsored…yet).

I absolutely think that the Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum is by far the best skin care product I’ve used. It so effective its not even funny. The entire orange line from Murad has worked the best for my skin type however, I have issues with hyperpigmentation and occasional pimples leaving behind their ugly faces (I got emo there sorry). I have had this product for some time and I recently broke out on my cheek and it left a scar on my face and now its gone. I have seen results overnight, its amazing.

NB. For my occasional pimples, I’d use GSK Betnovate cream 0.1% which also caused my pimples to disappear. I believe you need a prescription for this cream now, but it has worked for me so please consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.

I can’t talk about my skin care masks without talking about a stalwart in my skin care routine, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing!!! (Yes, it deserves extra exclamation marks). This stuff speaks for itself, it has a host of benefits and I use it once a week to clean my pores and detox my skin. No wonder its called the worlds most powerful facial 🙂 .

I use GlamGlow THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Treatment once a week to help rejuvenate my skin. Its really expensive but a little goes a long way. This is a skin care staple if you have dry skin.

I also love sheet masks, which are a part of Korean skin care and works really well. I use the My Beauty Diary Whitening Mask. Its basically a mask that fits your face and is filled with the respective serum and you leave it on for a couple minutes, peel it off, and massage the remainder of serum into your skin. There’s different types but My Beauty Diary is my favorite brand.

  1. CHANGE your pillow cases/ bed linen once a week.
  2. ASSIGN one separate wash cloth to drying your face.
  3. DRINK more water.
  4. EAT less dairy and more fruits like berries, oranges, grapefruits etc
  5. LIMIT red meat and try eating more salmon or tuna.
  6. WASH your hair once a week. It can prevent pimples.
  7. USE beauty oils and massage your face regularly.
  8. USE only clean hands when touching your face.
  9. SWEAT more (workout/saunas).
  10. GET regular professional facials. (Favorite Spa: The J Spa- San Fernando Trinidad, 868-221-0695)

WELP! This was a mouthful. If you learned something or have a question, please let me know in the comment section below.

DIY Turmeric Face Mask (Acne & Dark Spots)

Hello! Thanks for visiting my blog. Today, I will share my favorite most natural way to get rid of acne and dark spots from on your face. You can also use this mask on the rest of your body to get rid of body acne or discoloration on the body. It’s easy and inexpensive so here’s what you’ll need:

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

  – 1 tbsp turmeric powder

  – 1 tbsp plain (Greek) non-fat yogurt

  – 1 tsp honey (pure)

  1. Mix all ingredients together.

 2. Apply to clean face with clean foundation brush or with    clean hands.

3. Leave for 10-15 mins and then rinse with lukewarm water. Moisturize!

DISCLAIMER: This mask did not cause my face to stain however, every one is different and you need to wash it off thoroughly. It is also a natural mask, so in order for it to be effective, you must use it 3-4 times a week and be consistent.

Why these ingredients:

  • Turmeric– lightens overall skin tone, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial (ACNE/LIGHTENING)
  • Yogurt– contains zinc, lactic acid, calcium, and B vitamins which are all good for the skin (NOURISHING)
  • Honey– moisturizing, will add rehydrate the skin naturally (MOISTURIZING)

If you have tried this mask, comment below. We’d love to hear how this DIY mask has worked for you 🙂

Blackheads can be so annoying, especially when you’re about to put makeup on or you’ve just washed your face and they’re just staring at you. Here’s my DIY face mask that will clean your pores and get rid of those pesky blackheads. You’ll need:

– 1 egg (white)

– toilet paper

– old foundation brush (optional)

Step 1: Separate the yolk from the whites, and put egg white in a bowl.

Step 2: Beat white with fork until they become frothy (pictured).

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Step 3: Tear up some 2-ply toilet paper and place it in the bowl with beaten egg white.

Step 4: Saturate the toilet paper with egg whites and then apply to your face using an old foundation brush, or even CLEAN dry hands.

Step 5: Allow to harden on your face for about 15-20 mins, then peel off or remove with warm water.

This mask is sure to remove all your blackheads while leave your face feeling smooth, firm, and clean. You can use this mask once a week for a month and you’ll see results.

Fun Fact: Blackheads form when a clog develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to the skin follicle, producing a bump.

In addition to this mask, you want to make sure you are cleaning your makeup off properly and washing your face everyday with some kind of cleanser to remove dirt and oils off of your face.

Comment below if you’ve tried this mask or know of anything else that works.

DIY Lip scrub

Wearing lipstick can be such a good thing but a pain to take off. Here’s a quick and easy lip scrub that will remove your lip color or heal chapped lips, and add some moisture back to those lips. You’d need:

-1 tsp brown sugar (white would not be as effective)

– 1 tsp honey

– coconut oil (optional)

Combine ingredients together and apply to an old toothbrush or cloth and scrub lips until the lip color is removed. Rinse and pat dry. Your lips should feel soft and kissable 😉

Coffee face mask- (Summer Skin Series)

coffee mask

Hey guys! This is the first post in my “Summer Skin Series.” I have been having issues with hyper pigmentation on my face especially. And as usual, I’ve been trying a couple things that have been helping to even my skin tone and give me that radiant summer glow. Stay tuned to find out what I use to achieve this in future posts. I have to give credit to my sister for this face mask, she swears by it so I thought I would give it a try…ITS AMAZING! 🙂 My skin was glowing the morning after, so I could imagine what constant use of this mask would do. This mask is great for dark circles as well as acne scaring. For best results, use this mask once to twice per week.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– 1 tbsp. coffee

– 1 tsp. coconut oil

– water

– honey (optional)

Mix coffee, honey and coconut oil together, then add water until the mask comes to a spreadable consistency. Apply to a clean dry face, preferably at night. Leave it on your face until the mask becomes hard and its difficult to smile. After it dries, rinse with warm water and follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

PROS: It clears skin. Makes your skin look radiant the next day. Smells great. Works after just one use.

CONS: A bit messy to apply and take off. Take a while to make as opposed to a store bought mask.

Additional info: Caffeine is good for reducing puffy eyes, reduces cellulite (temporarily), exfoliates dry skin, and makes skin smooth. It also reduces the accumulation of blood under your eyes, which contributes to dark shadows, thus helping hyper pigmentation and dark circles.

As usual, please feel free to leave a response below if you have tried this mask or any other mask that helps with hyperpigmentation and dark circles.

Night time skin regimen

Before I go to bed, I make sure to always give my skin a little love. I start off by removing all my makeup with a makeup wipe, Im currently using Alba Botanica towelettes, then I follow up with Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser to make sure my face is throughly clean. After I get out the shower, I follow up with some coconut oil, while my pores are still open, then I put on my EOS lip balm and thats it. Easy breezy. Now, if you have acne or oily skin stay tuned to my upcoming posts.

Sleep easy.
